About Bernie Williams

On October 25, 1973, the Giants sent Williams and Willie McCovey to the Padres for Mike Caldwell, a deal reported in the New York Times the next day. Williams then played 14 games for San Diego in 1974, with two hits in 15 at-bats. Card #557 is a high-number issue from the fifth series and lists him with the Giants.

Bernie Williams was a right-handed outfielder and pinch hitter whose four major league seasons, 1970 to 1972 with the San Francisco Giants and 1974 with the San Diego Padres, added up to 102 games and a .192 average. Two of his four big-league home runs were pinch hits. Born October 8, 1948, in Alameda, California, he played his last major league game on May 12, 1974. He then played for the Hankyu Braves in Japan from 1975 to 1980, hitting .258 with 96 home runs and 294 RBI and making the Pacific League All-Star team in 1976.
