About Clyde Mashore

Card #401 comes from the fourth series and shows Mashore with Montreal after the 1972 season, in which he hit .227 with 3 home runs and 23 RBIs. The 1973 season was his last, 67 games with a .204 average and 14 RBIs, and he played his final game on September 30.

Clyde Mashore was a right-handed outfielder who played 241 major league games over five seasons, 1969 to 1973, for the Cincinnati Reds and the Montreal Expos. A multisport athlete at Clayton Valley High School in Concord, California, he signed with the Reds in 1964 as an amateur free agent. The Mets took him in the 1967 Rule 5 draft but returned him to Cincinnati the next spring. He debuted July 11, 1969, pinch-hitting for Camilo Pascual against Houston's Don Wilson and flying out. The Reds traded him to Montreal for Ty Cline on June 15, 1970, and he spent the rest of his career with the Expos. His first hit, RBI and run all came on one swing, a two-run homer off Ray Sadecki at Jarry Park on September 14, 1970. He played a personal-best 93 games in 1972. His career line was a .208 average with 8 home runs and 47 RBIs. His son Damon Mashore played three seasons in the majors, and his son Justin played in the minors. Clayton Valley High School inducted him into its inaugural hall of fame class in 2008.
