1973 Topps #211 Balor Moore

About Balor Moore
Card #211, from the second series, pictures Moore with Montreal after his 1972 season. Roughed up in his first four starts, he went 0-3 with a 6.45 ERA. A complete-game 9-1 win over the Dodgers on July 14 turned his season around, and from there he went 9-6 with a 2.94 ERA. He finished 9-9 with a 3.47 ERA. A 25-inning scoreless streak ended September 16 on Mike Schmidt's first major league home run. That winter he pitched a perfect game for San Juan in Puerto Rico.
Balor Moore was a left-handed pitcher from Smithville, Texas, who worked in the majors from 1970 to 1980 for the Montreal Expos, California Angels and Toronto Blue Jays. He was the first player the Expos drafted, 22nd overall in 1969, and he debuted at 19 on May 21, 1970, facing Willie Stargell as his only batter. His best year was 1972, when he struck out 161 in 147 2/3 innings over 22 starts. Major elbow surgery after the 1974 season kept him from regaining that form. Sold to the Angels, he pitched for them in 1977, then spent his last three seasons with Toronto, where he recorded the only save of his career on April 27, 1980, against the Brewers. He finished 28-48 with a 4.52 ERA in the majors.
