1973 Topps #362 Eddie Watt

About Eddie Watt
After the 1972 season, Watt returned to Venezuela as pitching coach of the Aragua Tigers. He had made 38 relief appearances for Baltimore that year, saving 7 games with a 2.17 ERA. His Orioles card, #362, was included in the third series of 1973 Topps.
Eddie Watt was a right-handed relief pitcher who spent parts of ten seasons in the majors, mostly in the Baltimore Orioles bullpen from 1966 to 1973. An Iowan out of Iowa State Teachers College, he signed with Baltimore in 1961 and worked his way up through Appleton, Aberdeen, Elmira and Rochester, throwing two no-hitters at Elmira in 1965. Used almost exclusively as a reliever after his rookie year, he led the Orioles pitching staff in appearances four straight seasons and helped Baltimore to four pennants and two World Series titles. He posted a 38-36 career record with 80 saves and a 2.91 ERA over 411 games, going 37-34 with 74 saves as an Oriole. He finished his playing career with the Phillies and Cubs and then worked as a minor league manager and pitching coach, including several seasons in the Atlanta Braves system.
