1973 Topps #407 Felix Millan

About Felix Millan
Millan hit .290 for the 1973 Mets and led them with 82 runs and 185 hits, a club season record. His 16 hits and .533 average earned him National League Player of the Week honors on June 17, and New York sportswriters voted him the team's most valuable player. In the World Series he batted .188 and misjudged a Bert Campaneris grounder in Game One, an error that led to both Oakland runs in a 2-1 loss. His fourth-series #407 carries the Mets.
Felix Millan was a Puerto Rican second baseman who spent 12 major league seasons with the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets, from his 1966 debut through 1977. A slap hitter who choked up far on the bat, he built a reputation as one of the toughest men in the league to strike out. He made three All-Star teams and won two Gold Gloves at second base, and he helped both the Braves and the Mets reach the postseason, including the Mets' 1973 National League pennant and World Series run. The nickname the Cat evolved from Kitten, which he earned for his all-around skills. He finished his career with 1,617 hits and a .279 batting average before playing three more seasons in Japan.
