1973 Topps #33 Jim Breazeale

About Jim Breazeale
Breazeale hit .247 with 5 home runs and 17 RBIs in 52 games for Atlanta in 1972. His rookie card, #33, placed him in the first 1973 Topps series with the Braves. A December 20, 1972, head-on collision near Uvalde, Texas, left him with a fractured ankle. He and teammate Mike McQueen were in the car struck by another driver. Breazeale opened 1973 on the disabled list and remained there until early June.
Jim Breazeale was a left-handed-hitting first baseman for Atlanta and the Chicago White Sox. He attended Sam Houston High School in Houston, where he drew comparisons to fellow Houstonian Rusty Staub. The Braves selected him eighth overall in the January 1968 draft. He made his major league debut on September 13, 1969, and returned to Atlanta in 1971. After 3 seasons with the Braves, he appeared in 25 games for the White Sox in 1978, hitting 3 home runs and driving in 13 runs. He finished with a .223 average, 9 home runs and 33 RBIs in 89 major league games.
