1973 Topps #215 Dusty Baker

About Dusty Baker
Baker played 159 games in 1973, a career high, and hit .288 with 174 hits. He scored 101 runs, hit 21 home runs and drove in 99. His 24 stolen bases were also the best of his career. He did it alongside Hank Aaron, and the press had started calling him the next Hank Aaron. Card #215 pictures him with the Braves.
Johnnie B. "Dusty" Baker Jr. was born June 15, 1949, in Riverside, California, and grew up in the Sacramento area, where he starred at Del Campo High School and held a basketball scholarship offer from Santa Clara. The Atlanta Braves drafted him in the 26th round in 1967, and he signed against his father's wishes. He debuted September 7, 1968, pinch-hitting for Phil Niekro, and became the Braves' starting center fielder in 1972. After the 1975 season he was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he played eight years. With them he was named the first NLCS MVP in 1977, won a Gold Glove and two Silver Sluggers, made the 1981 and 1982 All-Star teams, and won the 1981 World Series. He finished with the Giants in 1984 and the Athletics in 1985 and 1986. He played 2,039 games and retired with 1,981 hits, 242 home runs and 1,013 RBI. As a manager he led the Giants, Cubs, Reds, Nationals and Astros, and won the 2022 World Series with Houston.
