About Lloyd Allen

Allen began 1973 with the Angels and finished it with the Rangers. He went 0-6 with a 9.42 ERA and 2 saves. Of his 28 games, five were starts. Card #267 comes from the third series and shows him with the Angels.

Lloyd Allen was a right-handed reliever who pitched seven seasons in the majors, 1969 to 1975, for the California Angels, Texas Rangers and Chicago White Sox. The Angels took him in the first round of the 1968 draft, 12th overall. He reached the majors on September 1, 1969, the youngest player in the American League that year and the first big leaguer born in the 1950s to appear in a regular-season game. A native of Merced, California, he attended Selma High School and Fresno City College. A May 1973 trade sent him and Jim Spencer from the Angels to Texas for Mike Epstein, Rich Hand and Rick Stelmaszek. Arm problems led him to retire from baseball in 1979.
