About Steve Barber

California's first-series #36 in 1973 Topps followed Barber's 1972 season of 73 2/3 innings and 40 strikeouts for Atlanta and the Angels. He worked 50 games for California in 1973 and recorded 4 saves. On October 23, the Angels sent him to Milwaukee in a nine-player trade.

Steve Barber pitched left-handed for 7 major league clubs over 15 seasons, finishing with 121 wins, 1,309 strikeouts and a 3.36 ERA. Baltimore scout Walter Youse sent him to the Orioles' minor league camp in 1957, where he earned a contract. After 3 seasons in the low minors, Barber demanded that general manager Lee MacPhail send him to the Florida Instructional League. Harry Brecheen worked on his delivery and slider there. Barber later owned automotive businesses and worked as a dealership manager and hearing-aid salesman. He also drove a school bus for children with disabilities. The Orioles inducted him into their team Hall of Fame in 1988.
