About Craig Robinson

Rookie card #23 is printed with the Phillies, although Philadelphia had sent Robinson and Barry Lersch to Atlanta for Ron Schueler on December 3, 1973. His 1973 season began at Triple-A Eugene and turned when Larry Bowa broke an ankle on July 26. Robinson singled and scored in his first at-bat the next night and started 39 games at shortstop, finishing at .226. In 1974 he made 138 starts at short for an Atlanta club that won 88 games.

Craig Robinson was a shortstop who played parts of six seasons for the Philadelphia Phillies, Atlanta Braves and San Francisco Giants. He led Wake Forest in 1970 with a .363 average, and the Phillies took him in the 11th round of that year's draft. He debuted on September 9, 1972, as a pinch runner at Veterans Stadium, in an organization where Larry Bowa held the shortstop job. Atlanta gave him his only regular role, and he was in the starting lineup on the nights Hank Aaron tied and broke Babe Ruth's career home run record, April 4 and April 8, 1974. San Francisco acquired him for Ed Goodson on June 11, 1975, and a seven-player deal that sent Darrell Evans to the Giants returned him to Atlanta on June 13, 1976. In 292 games he batted .219 and stole 12 bases. He spent 1978 in the Padres' system at Triple-A Hawaii. He became friendly with Braves owner Ted Turner and spent some off-seasons as a cameraman for WTBS, working Atlanta Flames hockey, Georgia football and NASCAR.
