1974 Topps #360 Greg Luzinski

About Greg Luzinski
Injuries cut Luzinski's 1974 to 85 games and 302 at-bats. He gashed his right hand on a wire fence in spring training, then his right knee buckled chasing a foul ball on June 5, and ligament surgery kept him out until late August. He hit .272 with seven home runs and 48 RBIs. The Phillies missed the division by eight games. His 1974 Topps card is #360.
Greg Luzinski was a right-handed slugging left fielder for the Philadelphia Phillies from 1970 to 1980, then a designated hitter for the Chicago White Sox through 1984. He hit .276 with 307 home runs and 1,128 RBIs and was a National League All-Star every year from 1975 through 1978. The Bull, as he was known, reportedly picked up the nickname at Triple-A Eugene for his thick chest and productive bat. In the 1980 NLCS he belted a two-run homer in Game 1 and a pinch-hit double in Game 4, hits that helped carry Philadelphia to its first World Series title. With the White Sox he hit 32 home runs as a DH in 1983, a record at that time. Born in Chicago, he was drafted 11th overall in 1968 out of Notre Dame High School. He was inducted into the National Polish-American Sports Hall of Fame in 1989 and the Phillies Wall of Fame in 1998, and later opened Bull's Barbecue at Citizens Bank Park.
