1974 Topps #361 Don Carrithers

About Don Carrithers
The 1974 Topps #361 still pictures Carrithers as a Giant, though he pitched for Montreal that season. On July 17 at Dodger Stadium he relieved the Expos' starter, who had given up four runs in two innings, and threw seven scoreless innings. Montreal won 5-4 and Carrithers got the win. He made 22 appearances for the Expos that year, three of them starts.
Don Carrithers was a right-handed pitcher who worked in the majors from 1970 to 1977 for the San Francisco Giants, Montreal Expos and Minnesota Twins. The Giants took him in the third round of the 1967 draft out of Lynwood High School in California, and he debuted at 20. He split his time between starting and relief, and injuries limited him to no more than 25 appearances in each season from 1971 through 1973. San Francisco traded him to Montreal for catcher John Boccabella just before 1974, and he did his best work there, going 5-2 with a 3.00 ERA in 1974 and 5-3 with a 3.30 ERA in 1975. In 1976 he threw 140 1/3 innings, a career high. The Expos sold him to Minnesota in spring 1977, and he finished 28-32 with a 4.45 ERA in 165 games.
