About Jim Beauchamp

Beauchamp hit .279 in 61 at bats for the 1973 Mets, with a four-RBI game against the Pirates on May 13 as his best. Manager Yogi Berra sent him up four times in the World Series, and he went hitless. Card #424 in the 1974 Topps set shows him with the Mets, who released him on March 27, 1974; his last major league game had come on September 20, 1973.

James Edward Beauchamp was a power-hitting first baseman and outfielder from Vinita and Grove, Oklahoma, signed by the St. Louis Cardinals out of Oklahoma State in 1958 and named the 1963 Texas League MVP after hitting .337 with 31 home runs and 105 RBI for the Tulsa Oilers. Injuries, including a dislocated shoulder that damaged his throwing arm, slowed a career that stretched across ten major league seasons and five organizations: the Cardinals, Colt .45s/Astros, Braves, Reds and Mets. He appeared in the 1973 World Series with New York. After retiring as a player he spent decades as a minor league manager and as the Atlanta Braves' bench coach and outfield coordinator, putting 50 years in the game in all.
