1974 Topps #513 Jim Campanis

About Jim Campanis
Jim Campanis returned to the majors in 1973, appearing in six games for the Pittsburgh Pirates and going 1-for-6. He had joined Pittsburgh in a December 2, 1970 trade with Kansas City that brought Freddie Patek to the Royals. His last major league game came on October 1, 1973, and Topps pictured him with Pittsburgh on #513 in the 1974 set.
James Alexander Campanis was a right-handed catcher who spent six seasons in the majors, from 1966 through 1970 and again in 1973. He broke in with the Los Angeles Dodgers and played for them from 1966 through 1968, then moved to the Kansas City Royals for the 1969 and 1970 seasons before closing his playing days with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1973. His father, Al Campanis, was general manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers from 1968 to 1987. Beyond his MLB stints, Campanis played winter ball in Mexico's Pacific League, suiting up for the Algodoneros de Guasave, the Caneros de Los Mochis and the Yaquis de Obregon. He later returned to work for the Dodgers organization and was with the club when it won the 1988 World Series.
