1974 Topps #368 Manny Mota

About Manny Mota
Selected to the National League All-Star team in 1973, Mota appeared on Dodgers card #368 in 1974 Topps. His role changed in 1974: he played 66 games but appeared in the outfield 3 times. He collected 16 hits in 57 at-bats with 16 RBI.
Manny Mota signed with the New York Giants in 1957 for a $400 bonus. His minor league path took him from Michigan City to Tacoma before his major league debut with San Francisco in 1962. He played twenty major league seasons and batted .304, becoming a pinch-hitting specialist with the Dodgers. He established the major league career pinch-hit record in 1979; Lenny Harris broke it in 2001. Mota coached Los Angeles from 1980 through 2013 and also worked on its Spanish-language broadcasts. His father, Andres, gave him the nickname El Chory, roughly meaning Shorty. Two sons, Andy and Jose, also reached the majors.
