1974 Topps #315 Ron Cey

About Ron Cey
In 1974 Cey hit .262 with 18 home runs and 97 RBI, passing Cookie Lavagetto's 1939 Dodgers record of 87 for third basemen. He had a club-record seven RBI on June 1 and eight in a 15-4 win over San Diego on July 31, and fans voted him a starter in the All-Star Game at Three Rivers Stadium. Los Angeles beat Pittsburgh in the NLCS, then lost the World Series to Oakland. His 1974 Topps #315 is a Dodgers card.
Ron Cey was a third baseman for 17 seasons, 1971 through 1987, best known as the right-handed power bat of the Los Angeles Dodgers infield that also had Steve Garvey, Davey Lopes and Bill Russell. A six-time All-Star from 1974 to 1979, he hit 316 home runs with 1,139 RBI and was a World Series co-MVP in 1981, when the Dodgers beat the Yankees. He came out of Tacoma and Washington State, where coach Chuck Brayton gave him the nickname the Penguin for his waddling gait. After a Pacific Coast League record 123 RBI at Spokane in 1971, he took over third base in Los Angeles in 1973. He finished in the top 25 of the MVP vote four times in 1974-1977 and once with the Cubs in 1984. The Dodgers traded him to Chicago after 1982, and he helped the Cubs to the 1984 NL East title with 25 home runs and 97 RBI. He ended his career with Oakland in 1987.
