1974 Topps #573 Mike Adams

About Mike Adams
Adams stayed on the Minnesota roster all of 1973, appearing in 55 games with 66 at-bats, mostly as a pinch-hitter or pinch-runner. He hit .212 with three home runs, a career high, and drew 17 walks. Minnesota preferred Jim Holt, Bobby Darwin and Steve Brye in the outfield. His rookie card, #573, is printed with the Twins.
Mike Adams was a right-handed backup outfielder who played 100 major league games between 1972 and 1978 for the Minnesota Twins, Chicago Cubs and Oakland Athletics. His father, Bobby Adams, was a big league second baseman, and his uncle, Dick Adams, a first baseman. Detroit drafted him in 1967, and he missed 1969 for military service. After he hit 18 home runs at Class A Rocky Mount in 1970, he was traded to Minnesota, with a player to be named later, for Bill Zepp. He hit over .300 in consecutive Triple-A seasons for the Twins, and 21 home runs in 1972 earned him a September call-up; he debuted on September 10. The Twins sent him to the Cubs for Tom Lundstedt after the 1974 season. He played 25 games for Chicago in 1976 and two in 1977, then 15 for Oakland in 1978, the last on July 25. He finished with a .195 average and nine RBI.
