1974 Topps #321 Steve Braun

About Steve Braun
Braun filed for arbitration before the 1974 season asking for $31,500 against Calvin Griffith's $25,000 and won. Moved to left field, he played 108 games there, hit .280 with 8 home runs and 53 runs scored, and reportedly drew a Yankees offer of Fritz Peterson and Sam McDowell that Minnesota turned down. His 1974 Topps card is #321, with the Minnesota Twins.
Steve Braun was a left-handed hitter who played third base and the outfield for 15 big league seasons, 1971 through 1985, with the Minnesota Twins, Seattle Mariners, Kansas City Royals, Toronto Blue Jays and St. Louis Cardinals. The Twins drafted him in the 10th round in 1966, and two years in the Army followed before he made the 1971 opening day roster out of Single-A. His best year was 1975, when he hit .302 with 11 home runs. The Mariners took him in the 1976 expansion draft, and Seattle traded him to Kansas City for Jim Colborn in 1978. He became a pinch-hitting specialist with the Cardinals, played on their 1982 World Series champions and retired as the franchise's career pinch-hit leader. He finished with a .271 average, 52 home runs and 388 RBI in 1,425 games, then coached the Red Sox minor league system as hitting coordinator from 1991 to 2002.
