About Dusty Baker

On April 8, 1974, Baker was batting fifth, on deck, in the fourth inning when Aaron hit his 715th home run off Al Downing to pass Babe Ruth. Baker finished the year at .256 with 20 home runs and 69 RBI. Manager Eddie Mathews said that season, "He has super tools." Baker's card is #320, in a Braves uniform.

Johnnie B. "Dusty" Baker Jr. was born June 15, 1949, in Riverside, California, and grew up in the Sacramento area, where he starred at Del Campo High School and held a basketball scholarship offer from Santa Clara. The Atlanta Braves drafted him in the 26th round in 1967, and he signed against his father's wishes. He debuted September 7, 1968, pinch-hitting for Phil Niekro, and became the Braves' starting center fielder in 1972. After the 1975 season he was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he played eight years. With them he was named the first NLCS MVP in 1977, won a Gold Glove and two Silver Sluggers, made the 1981 and 1982 All-Star teams, and won the 1981 World Series. He finished with the Giants in 1984 and the Athletics in 1985 and 1986. He played 2,039 games and retired with 1,981 hits, 242 home runs and 1,013 RBI. As a manager he led the Giants, Cubs, Reds, Nationals and Astros, and won the 2022 World Series with Houston.
