Rod Gilbreath was a second baseman who spent his entire seven-year major league career, 1972 to 1978, with the Atlanta Braves. The Braves took him in the third round (69th overall) of the 1970 draft out of Jones County Junior College in Mississippi, and he reached Atlanta at 19 after a midseason promotion from Double-A Savannah in 1972. He split the next two years between the Braves and Triple-A Richmond, then held a big-league job from 1975 through 1978, topping 100 games in each of his last three seasons. He finished with a .248 average, 14 home runs and 125 RBI in 500 games, and led the National League with 20 sacrifice hits in 1976. After he retired as a player following the 1980 minor league season, he rejoined the Braves as a scout, minor league manager and player development executive, and was still on the club's professional scouting staff in 2011.
