About Steve Mingori
The left-hander pitched in 36 games for Kansas City in 1974, none of them starts, and went 2-3 with a 2.81 ERA. He saved 2 games and struck out 43 in 67 1/3 innings. Jack McKeon's Royals finished 77-85, fifth in the American League West. Mingori's #537 is printed with the Royals.
Steve Mingori was a left-handed relief pitcher who spent ten seasons in the majors with the Cleveland Indians and Kansas City Royals. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, he signed with the Cincinnati Reds in 1965 and worked five years in their minor league system before a trade sent him to Cleveland ahead of the 1970 season. He debuted on August 5, 1970, and posted a 1.43 ERA in 54 games the following year despite missing much of the season after breaking his jaw. In June 1973 the Royals traded for him, in part because he was a Kansas City native, and he pitched in relief for them through 1979, working at least 30 games in each of his final three seasons. He finished his career 18-33 with a 3.03 ERA and 42 saves across 385 games, almost all in relief, and pitched in three straight ALCS losses to the Yankees from 1976 to 1978.
