About this card

The story on this card
The 1975 American League home run title was shared: Reggie Jackson of the Oakland Athletics and George Scott of the Milwaukee Brewers each finished with 36, and John Mayberry of the Kansas City Royals followed with 34. Topps put the three on #194, a League Leaders card in its 1976 set, with Jackson's name first. Jackson's panel still shows Oakland, though the Athletics traded him to Baltimore that spring, along with Ken Holtzman and Bill Van Bommel, for Don Baylor, Mike Torrez and Paul Mitchell. Scott's 36 came with 109 RBIs and Mayberry's 34 with 106.
Oakland outfielder Reggie Jackson attended Arizona State on a football scholarship. He played summer baseball for Walter Youse's amateur team in Baltimore before taking over Arizona State's center-field job from Rick Monday. George Scott was a first baseman for four major league clubs, spending most of his career with Boston and Milwaukee. He won eight Gold Gloves and finished with 271 home runs and 1,051 RBI. John Mayberry, a left-handed first baseman, played 1,620 games between 1968 and 1982 for the Astros, Royals, Blue Jays and Yankees, finishing with 1,379 hits and 879 RBIs.
