The story on this card
Card #69 is a Father & Son card in the 1976 Topps set, pairing Major Leaguers with fathers who also reached the Big Show. Jim Hegan is printed with the Cleveland Indians, the club he caught for in 1941-42 and 1946-57, and his son Mike Hegan with the Milwaukee Brewers. Mike was in his second stint in Milwaukee in 1976 and hit .248 with 5 home runs in 80 games. On September 3 he became the first Brewer to hit for the cycle, in an 11-2 win over Detroit. The Hegans were the first father and son each to win a World Series, Jim with the 1948 Indians and Mike with the 1972 Athletics.
Cleveland catcher Jim Hegan and Browns quarterback Otto Graham opened Hegan-Graham Appliance on Euclid Avenue. The downtown Cleveland store sold sporting goods, luggage and jewelry as well as appliances. A Cleveland-born first baseman and outfielder who spent twelve American League seasons with the Yankees, Pilots, Athletics and Brewers, Mike Hegan was the first player signed by the expansion Seattle Pilots and later won a World Series with Oakland.
