About this card

Cards #191-205 are the League Leaders subset: the 1975 leaders of the National League and the American League in batting, home runs, RBI, stolen bases, victories, ERA and strikeouts, the NL card first in each pair, with three men on each card, and #205, the 1975 Major League Leading Fireman, which pairs two relievers.

The story on this card

Greg Luzinski of the Philadelphia Phillies drove in 120 runs in 1975 to top the National League, ahead of Cincinnati's Johnny Bench with 110 and Tony Perez with 109. Topps issued the three together as #195 in the League Leaders subset of the 1976 set. Bench and Perez played for the Reds club that won 108 games and beat Boston in a seven-game World Series. Luzinski, an outfielder, batted .300 with 34 home runs that year and made the first of four straight All-Star teams.

Greg Luzinski was a power-hitting left fielder for the Phillies and designated hitter for the White Sox, a four-time All-Star who hit 307 home runs, led the National League in RBIs in 1975 and won the 1980 World Series with Philadelphia. Johnny Bench spent his entire 17-season career with Cincinnati. The catcher won two National League MVP awards and ten straight Gold Gloves, played on two World Series winners and entered the Hall of Fame in 1989. Tony Perez went from a Cuban sugar mill team to 23 major-league seasons and 1,652 RBI. The seven-time All-Star played first and third base for Cincinnati, later managed the Reds and Marlins, and entered the Hall of Fame in 2000.
