The story on this card
A Milwaukee first baseman, a Kansas City first baseman and a Boston rookie shared the 1975 American League RBI board. George Scott of the Brewers led with 109, John Mayberry of the Royals drove in 106, and Fred Lynn of the Red Sox had 105 while batting .331 with 21 home runs. Topps ran them in that order on #196, a League Leaders card in the 1976 set. Lynn won both Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player for 1975, and Scott took the Gold Glove at first base that season.
George Scott was a first baseman for four major league clubs, spending most of his career with Boston and Milwaukee. He won eight Gold Gloves and finished with 271 home runs and 1,051 RBI. John Mayberry, a left-handed first baseman, played 1,620 games between 1968 and 1982 for the Astros, Royals, Blue Jays and Yankees, finishing with 1,379 hits and 879 RBIs. Center fielder Fred Lynn hit .283 with 306 home runs over 17 seasons, mainly for Boston and California. In 1975 he won Rookie of the Year and MVP together, and in 1983 he hit the only All-Star Game grand slam.
