About Nate Colbert

Nate Colbert appears on card #495 of the 1976 Topps set as a Montreal Expo. San Diego traded him to Detroit on November 18, 1974, in a three-team deal, and the Tigers sold his contract to Montreal on June 15, 1975. Across the two clubs he hit .156 with 8 home runs and 29 RBI.

Nate Colbert was a first baseman and three-time All-Star for San Diego. He signed with his hometown St. Louis Cardinals after graduating from Sumner High School in 1964. His major league career spanned 10 seasons and 1,004 games. He hit .243 with 173 home runs and 520 RBI. His 163 Padres home runs remained the club record until Manny Machado passed him in 2024. After playing, he returned to the Padres as a spring-training instructor and coached for the Riverside Red Wave. An ordained minister, he ran baseball schools and camps for young players. Colbert, Randy Jones and Ray Kroc formed the Padres Hall of Fame's inaugural class in 1999.
