About Bob Robertson

In 1976 Robertson hit .217 with 2 home runs and 25 RBI. He appeared in 61 games for Pittsburgh, 29 of them at first base. The Pirates released him after the season, and he did not play at any level in 1977. His 1977 Topps card is #176 and lists the Pirates.

Robert Eugene Robertson, born October 2, 1946 in Frostburg, Maryland, and raised in Mount Savage, was a first baseman who played parts of eleven big league seasons, mostly with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Touted early as a power prospect after leading the minor leagues in home runs three times, he played on the Pirates teams that won five National League East titles in six years from 1970 to 1975. In 1970 he batted .287 with 27 home runs. In the 1971 postseason he hit six home runs, three of them in one NLCS game, a single-postseason record that went unsurpassed for three decades, and he helped Pittsburgh beat Baltimore in the World Series. After knee surgery in 1974 he moved into part-time roles, closing his career with the Seattle Mariners and Toronto Blue Jays. He appeared in 829 games and hit .242 with 115 home runs.
