About this card

The story on this card

Topps used #437 in the Turn Back the Clock subset to honor Ralph Kiner for leading the National League in home runs a seventh straight year. Seven consecutive home run titles are a record; not even Babe Ruth did that. In 1947 Kiner reached 50 home runs on September 18, the fifth player to do so, and tied the Giants' Johnny Mize at 51 for the league lead. The Pirates had built a left-field bullpen to help Hank Greenberg, in his final season, and sportswriters later renamed it Kiner's Korner. Kiner hit 54 in 1949, the first National Leaguer with two 50-homer years. He led the league each year after that, with 47 in 1950, 42 in 1951 and 37 in 1952, and shared the 1952 title with Hank Sauer.

Ralph Kiner hit 369 major league home runs and led the National League seven straight seasons. The Pirates left fielder later became a Mets broadcaster and was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1975.
