About Bruce Bochte

Bochte opened 1977 hitting .290 for the Angels, then went to Cleveland on May 11 with Sid Monge and cash for Dave LaRoche and Dave Schuler. Across the two clubs he hit .301 with 7 home runs and 51 RBI. His 1977 Topps #68 carries the Angels team name.

Bruce Bochte was a left-handed first baseman and outfielder who played 12 American League seasons for the Angels, Indians, Mariners and Athletics between 1974 and 1986. A Santa Clara product, he was the Angels' second-round pick in 1972 and debuted July 19, 1974. Cleveland acquired him in May 1977, and he signed with Seattle as a free agent after that season. In 1979 with the Mariners he set career highs in virtually every major offensive category, hitting .316 with 16 home runs and 100 RBI, and was named to the American League All-Star team. He sat out the entire 1983 season, saying he was fed up with the business of baseball, then returned with Oakland for 1984 through 1986. He finished with 1,478 hits in 1,538 games and a .282 average. His career totals include 100 home runs and 658 RBI. Santa Clara inducted him into its athletic hall of fame in 1987.
