1977 Topps #554 Bruce Kimm

About Bruce Kimm
As Mark Fidrych's personal catcher in 1976, Kimm hit .263 in 63 games for Detroit. His only major-league home run came off Frank Tanana that August and put the Tigers ahead in another Fidrych victory. Topps issued his rookie card as #554 in 1977.
Bruce Kimm moved from catcher to coach and manager, eventually taking charge of the Cubs for the rest of 2002, when they went 33-45. He first went behind the plate as a teenager in Norway, Iowa, when his town team lacked a catcher. The White Sox drafted him in the seventh round in 1969; he joined the Angels organization in a 1972 trade and Detroit's the next spring. He played for the Tigers and both Chicago clubs, then began managing at Lakeland in 1982. His later assignments included Cincinnati's bullpen and third-base coaching jobs, a Southern League Manager of the Year award with Orlando in 1995, and the Marlins' bullpen during their 1997 championship.
