1977 Topps #343 Ed Halicki

About Ed Halicki
The 1977 season was Halicki's busiest: all 37 of his appearances were starts, and he struck out 168. Seven of the starts went the distance, two as shutouts. At the plate he hit two home runs, two of his three in the majors. His 1977 Topps card, #343, pictures him with the San Francisco Giants.
Ed Halicki was a 6-foot-7 right-handed starter for the San Francisco Giants from 1974 to 1979 who finished his big-league run in 1980 with the Giants and California Angels. A native of Kearny, New Jersey, he attended Kearny High School and Monmouth University. On August 24, 1975, he no-hit the New York Mets 6-0, and no Giants pitcher threw another no-hitter at home until Jonathan Sanchez in July 2009. In 1977 he went 16-12 with a 3.32 ERA over 257 2/3 innings. In 1978 he posted a 2.85 ERA with nine complete games. He made 157 starts and 35 relief appearances, and the only save of his career came on August 13, 1978, against the Dodgers, when he retired the two batters he faced in a 7-6 Giants win. His career record was 55-66 with a 3.62 ERA and 707 strikeouts.
