1977 Topps #401 Mickey Scott

About Mickey Scott

Mickey Scott was a left-handed relief pitcher who worked 133 major league games over five seasons between 1972 and 1977 for the Baltimore Orioles, Montreal Expos and California Angels, finishing 8-7 with a 3.72 ERA and four saves. Born Ralph Robert Scott in Weimar, Germany, the New York Yankees took him out of Newburgh Free Academy in the 17th round of the 1965 draft; he was the first high school player from the Mid-Hudson region drafted by a big league club. He spent a year in the Army in 1967, playing at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Most of his career was spent in the minors, where he went 60-32 with 46 saves and a 3.20 ERA over nine seasons, mostly with the Rochester Red Wings. In 1974 he went 8-2 with 17 saves and a 0.99 ERA for Rochester. The Red Wings inducted him into their Hall of Fame in 1998. He died in Binghamton, New York, in 2011.
