1977 Topps #368 Mike Jorgensen

About Mike Jorgensen
Jorgensen was traded to Oakland at the start of the 1977 season after the Expos acquired first baseman Tony Perez, but card #368 still carries Montreal. Between the two clubs he hit .242 with 8 home runs and 32 RBI. He played 85 games, 53 of them at first base and 20 in the outfield.
Mike Jorgensen was a left-handed first baseman and outfielder who played 17 seasons between 1968 and 1985, most of them with the New York Mets and Montreal Expos. Raised in Bayside, Queens, and drafted by the Mets in the fourth round in 1966, he reached the majors as a September call-up in 1968. An April 1972 trade sent him to Montreal with Tim Foli and Ken Singleton for Rusty Staub, and there he won the 1973 Gold Glove at first base and hit .310 with a club-record .444 on-base percentage in 1974. Later stops included Oakland, Texas, Atlanta and St. Louis, and he reached the World Series with the Cardinals in 1985, his final season. He finished with 95 home runs and a .243 average in 1,633 games. In 1995 he took over as interim Cardinals manager after Joe Torre's firing and went 42-54, and he also worked in the club's front office as farm director and scout.
