1977 Topps #643 Mike Pazik

About Mike Pazik
The Twins put Pazik in their 1977 starting rotation, and his first start came April 12 at Seattle. His last major league appearance was another start, on April 22 at Texas. In his three starts he totaled 18 innings with a 2.50 ERA and 6 strikeouts. Topps pictured him with Minnesota on #643.
Mike Pazik was a left-handed pitcher from Lynn, Massachusetts, who worked 46 2/3 innings in 13 games for the Minnesota Twins between 1975 and 1977, going 1-4 with a 5.79 ERA. He graduated from Lynn English High School in 1968, was drafted by the Dodgers that year, and instead went to Holy Cross, playing Cape Cod League ball for Harwich and Orleans and throwing a no-hitter for Orleans in 1971. The Yankees took him in the first round of the 1971 draft, and the Twins acquired him from them for Dick Woodson in 1974. His only major league win came on April 17, 1977, a 10-2 victory over Oakland. On April 25 a van crash in Bloomington, Minnesota, broke both his legs. He spent two more seasons in the White Sox system, then coached and managed in the minors, served as White Sox pitching coach from 1995 to 1998 and scouted for the Kansas City Royals.
