The story on this card
Card #634 closes the Big League Brothers subset (#631-634) of the 1977 Topps set with two Chicago Cubs pitchers from Quincy, Illinois: Paul Reuschel and Rick Reuschel, both printed with the Cubs. Rick, the starter, went 14-12 with a 3.46 ERA over 260 innings in 1976. Paul, who had debuted in 1975, pitched mostly in relief, going 4-2 with a 4.55 ERA. He saved 3 games in 50 appearances. The photo is reversed against the captions: Rick is on the left and Paul on the right, an uncorrected error.
Paul Reuschel was a right-handed Cubs and Indians reliever from 1975 to 1979. On August 21, 1975, he finished a 7-0 shutout started by his brother Rick, the only major league shutout combined by siblings. Rick Reuschel - Right-handed Cubs ace of the 1970s who won 214 games over 19 seasons, with the Yankees, Pirates and Giants after Chicago. He won 20 in 1977, took Comeback Player honors in 1985 after rotator cuff surgery and started the 1989 All-Star Game.
