Pete LaCock was a left-handed first baseman and outfielder who played nine seasons in the majors, five with the Chicago Cubs (1972-1976) and four with the Kansas City Royals (1977-1980). The Cubs took him in the first round, 20th overall, of the January 1970 draft out of Taft High School. In the minors he led the Texas League in walks in 1971 and 1972. Over 715 major league games he hit .257 with 27 home runs and 224 RBI, working mostly as a part-time first baseman, pinch hitter and designated hitter. He reached the postseason with Kansas City in 1977, 1978 and 1980, including the 1980 World Series. A 1975 grand slam came in Bob Gibson's final game. He played for the Yokohama Taiyo Whales in 1981, and later coached and managed in independent leagues. He is the son of Hollywood Squares host Peter Marshall.
