1977 Topps #115 Rick Manning

About Rick Manning
A head-first slide at the Kingdome on June 4, 1977, led to a fractured vertebra that limited Manning to 68 games that year. He batted .226 with 5 home runs and 18 RBI. The 1977 Topps set shows him with Cleveland on #115.
Rick Manning was a left-handed-hitting center fielder, the second overall pick in the 1972 draft, who played 13 big-league seasons for the Cleveland Indians (1975-1983) and Milwaukee Brewers (1983-1987). He hit .257 with 56 home runs and 458 RBI. He stole 168 bases and won the 1976 American League Gold Glove. On May 15, 1981, he caught Ernie Whitt's fly ball for the final out of Len Barker's perfect game. The Indians traded him with Rick Waits to Milwaukee on June 6, 1983, for Gorman Thomas, Jamie Easterly and Ernie Camacho. On August 26, 1987, his 10th-inning pinch single beat Cleveland 1-0 and ended Paul Molitor's 39-game hitting streak. Since 1990 he has been Cleveland's television color commentator, the longest tenure of any TV announcer in team history. He is in the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame (1999) and the Greater Cleveland Sports Hall of Fame (2017).
