The story on this card
Davey Lopes is pictured on #412, the National League Championship Series card in the 1978 Topps Postseason subset, covering the Dodgers' 3-1 win over the Phillies in October 1977. Game 3 on October 7 at Veterans Stadium became known in Philadelphia as Black Friday. The Phillies led 5-3 in the ninth when Gene Garber gave up a bunt single to Vic Davalillo. Manny Mota's pinch-hit drive off Greg Luzinski's glove brought Davalillo home and put Mota on third. Lopes then hit a grounder that struck Mike Schmidt's knee, and Larry Bowa barehanded it and threw to first, where umpire Bruce Froemming called Lopes safe as Mota scored the tying run. Bill Russell singled Lopes home with the go-ahead run, and the Dodgers won 6-5. Earlier in the series, Lopes had tied Game 2 with an RBI single and singled in a run in Game 1.
