About this card

The set's three Postseason cards are #411-413: #411 covers the 1977 American League playoffs (Yankees and Royals), #412 the National League playoffs (Dodgers and Phillies) and #413 the 1977 World Series (Yankees).

The story on this card

Mickey Rivers is pictured on #411, the American League Championship Series card in the 1978 Topps Postseason subset, which covers the Yankees' 3-2 win over the Kansas City Royals in October 1977. The series was decided on October 9 at Royals Stadium. George Brett's first-inning triple had put the Royals ahead, and they led 3-2 going into the ninth. Royals manager Whitey Herzog replaced Dennis Leonard with Larry Gura, and Rivers singled to tie it at 3-3. Mark Littell relieved, and Willie Randolph's deep fly to center scored Roy White, who had walked, with the go-ahead run. Lou Piniella's grounder, which Brett threw away, brought in Rivers for a 5-3 lead. Sparky Lyle retired the Royals in the bottom of the ninth, sending the Yankees to the World Series against the Dodgers.
