1978 Topps #115 Gary Nolan

About Gary Nolan
Gary Nolan's 1977 ended his career: arm trouble limited him to 13 pitching appearances and a 4-4 record with a 6.09 ERA, and Cincinnati traded him to California on June 15 for minor league pitcher Craig Hendrickson. The Angels released him in January 1978. His Topps card that year, #115, still shows him as an Angel, and he spent 1978 dealing blackjack at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas.
Gary Nolan was a right-handed Cincinnati Reds pitcher who reached the majors at 18, one year after the club selected him 13th overall in the 1966 draft. In his debut on April 15, 1967, he struck out the side in the first inning against Houston. He finished that season 14-8 with a 2.58 ERA and 206 strikeouts, placing third in National League Rookie of the Year voting. Across ten major league seasons with Cincinnati and the California Angels, Nolan compiled a 110-70 record, a 3.08 ERA and 1,039 strikeouts. He pitched in 250 games, completed 45 and threw 14 shutouts. The Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame inducted him in 1983.
