1978 Topps #268 Gil Flores

About Gil Flores
Flores's 1977 debut produced 95 hits and 26 RBI with one home run for California, and Topps gave him rookie card #268 in the 1978 set, listed with the Angels. By the time that season ended he was a Met, and he played eight September games in the outfield.
Gil Flores was a right-handed outfielder from Ponce, Puerto Rico, who played three major league seasons, 1977 through 1979, with the California Angels and New York Mets. The Baltimore Orioles signed him as an amateur free agent in 1970, and he hit .288 in a little over a season in their farm system before the Angels took him in the minor league draft after 1972. He reached the majors in 1977 and played 104 games for California, batting .278 with 12 stolen bases. In 1978 he began the year with the Triple-A Salt Lake City Gulls and was sent to the Mets on July 28 for a player to be named later. After a September call-up in which he hit .276 in 11 games, he played 70 games for New York in 1979 and batted .194 in his last big league season. He stayed in the Mets' minor league system through 1984. His major league totals were 185 games and a .261 average.
