1978 Topps #719 Randy Elliott

About Randy Elliott
The 1977 season with the Giants put Elliott in the 1978 set: 73 games, a .240 average, seven home runs and 26 RBI, all career highs. He was the club's fifth outfielder and started 35 games in left field. His card, #719, is a rookie card and lists him with San Francisco. He then sat out the 1978 and 1979 seasons.
Randy Elliott was a right-handed outfielder from Oxnard, California, who played parts of four major league seasons spread across nine years: San Diego in 1972 and 1974, San Francisco in 1977 and Oakland in 1980. The Padres made him their first-ever first-round pick, 24th overall in the 1969 draft, out of Adolfo Camarillo High School. In 1972 he won the Double-A Texas League's Most Valuable Player award, leading the league with a .335 average and 85 RBI for the Alexandria Aces under manager Duke Snider, and San Diego called him up in September. A severe, chronic shoulder injury followed him, and both the Padres and the Angels released him in 1976. The Giants signed him late that year, and a strong spring training earned him a place on their 1977 roster, his only full season in the majors. He closed out his career with 14 games for the 1980 Athletics and finished with a .215 average, eight home runs and 35 RBI.
