1978 Topps #327 Rick Langford

About Rick Langford
Oakland acquired Langford from Pittsburgh in a 9-player trade before the 1977 season, sending Phil Garner, Chris Batton and Tommy Helms to the Pirates. Langford went 8-19 with a 4.02 ERA in his first Oakland season. His 1978 Topps rookie card was #327.
Rick Langford was a right-handed starter for Pittsburgh and Oakland from 1976 through 1986. The Pirates signed him as a free agent in 1973 after he had played 4 sports at Varina High School in Virginia. In 1980 he won 19 games for Oakland and led the American League with 28 complete games and 290 innings. He pitched 22 consecutive complete games starting May 23, a streak broken on September 17 when he fell 1 out short. An elbow injury interrupted his career in 1983. He attempted a comeback with the Yankees' Triple-A Columbus club in 1988. Langford joined Toronto's minor league coaching staff in 1996 and became the Blue Jays' bullpen coach in 2010.
