1978 Topps #461 Rob Andrews

About Rob Andrews
The first home run of Andrews' career came on Monday night, July 17, 1978, a ninth-inning shot off St. Louis pitcher Buddy Schultz in a nationally televised game that San Francisco won 9-7. He played 79 games that season and hit .220 with 1 homer and 11 RBI in 177 at bats. His Topps card is #461, with the Giants.
Rob Andrews was a right-handed second baseman who played five seasons in the National League, 1975 to 1979, for the Houston Astros and San Francisco Giants. The younger brother of Mike Andrews, he was drafted by Baltimore in 1970 and never played for the Orioles, who sent him and Enos Cabell to Houston for Lee May and Jay Schlueter at the December 1974 Winter Meetings. Andrews debuted on April 7, 1975, with two hits in a 6-2 win over Atlanta and hit safely in each of his first five games. Houston dealt him with cash to the Giants for Willie Crawford and Rob Sperring on March 26, 1977. Over 493 games he hit .251 with 3 home runs and 91 RBI. He stole 33 bases. The Giants released him after 1979, and his last appearance was a pinch-hit at bat against Lerrin LaGrow of the Dodgers on September 26.
