1978 Topps #603 Will McEnaney

About Will McEnaney
Montreal sent McEnaney to Pittsburgh for pitcher Timothy Jones near the end of spring training in 1978, so card #603 lists him with a club he had already left. He pitched six games for the Pirates, 8 2/3 innings with a 10.38 ERA, before a demotion to Triple-A Columbus. Pittsburgh released him at season's end.
Will McEnaney was a left-handed reliever from Springfield, Ohio, who pitched six major league seasons, 1974 to 1979, for the Reds, Expos, Pirates and Cardinals. Cincinnati drafted him in the eighth round in 1970, and he debuted on July 3, 1974. He was a bullpen piece of the Big Red Machine clubs that won the 1975 and 1976 World Series, saving 15 games with a 2.47 ERA in 1975. He closed out both Series with a perfect ninth inning, in Game Seven against Boston and Game Four against the Yankees, and became the first National League pitcher to finish consecutive World Series on the mound. In December 1976 the Reds sent him and Tony Perez to Montreal. He finished 12-17 with a 3.76 ERA and 29 saves in 269 games, all in relief. He later pitched in Mexico, where he threw a 1-0 no-hitter for Mexicali in 1980, and signed with the West Palm Beach Tropics of the Senior Professional Baseball Association in 1989.
