1979 Topps #26 Jamie Quirk

About Jamie Quirk
Quirk hit .304 in 1979, with 24 hits in 79 at-bats. He added a home run and 11 RBI. Over 51 games he caught in nine and played shortstop in five. His 1979 Topps card, #26, shows him in a Kansas City uniform.
Jamie Quirk was a left-handed-hitting reserve who played 18 major-league seasons, 1975 to 1992, mostly as a catcher after starting at shortstop and third base. A Parade All-America quarterback at St. Paul High School in Santa Fe Springs, California, he was offered a football scholarship to Notre Dame and attended Whittier College. He debuted with Kansas City in 1975 and also played for the Brewers, Cardinals, White Sox, Indians, Yankees, Orioles and Athletics. On September 27, 1984, in his only plate appearance for Cleveland, he homered in the ninth to beat Minnesota, a result that helped his old Royals clear the Twins in the West race. He returned to Kansas City in 1985 and was on the World Series champions, then appeared in the 1990 and 1992 postseasons with Oakland. He retired with 984 games and 43 home runs. He then coached the Royals, Rangers, Rockies, Astros and Cubs and managed in the minors.
