About Benoit Benjamin

Benoit Benjamin was a 7'0" center out of Creighton University whom the Los Angeles Clippers selected third overall in the 1985 NBA Draft, making this 1986-87 Fleer card his rookie-year issue. He went on to a lengthy 15-season NBA career (1985-1999), suiting up for nine franchises: the Clippers, Seattle SuperSonics, Los Angeles Lakers, New Jersey Nets, Vancouver Grizzlies, Milwaukee Bucks, Toronto Raptors, Philadelphia 76ers and Cleveland Cavaliers. Across 807 games he averaged roughly 11 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks a game, peaking at 16.4 points per game for the Clippers in 1988-89. A shot-blocking specialist, he led the NBA in block percentage in 1987-88 and still holds the Clippers' franchise records for blocks and blocks per game, though he was never named an All-Star. Nicknamed "Big Ben," he was also a lightning rod for critics: after a 1988 game, broadcaster Dick Vitale needled Benjamin, who wore uniform number 00, by cracking that "he should add another zero."
