1986-87 Fleer #70 Cedric Maxwell

About Cedric Maxwell
Born Cedric Bryan Maxwell, "Cornbread" earned his nickname at the University of North Carolina Charlotte after teammate Melvin Watkins likened him to the title character of the film "Cornbread, Earl and Me." A 6'8" forward, Maxwell was drafted 12th overall by the Boston Celtics in 1977 and played 11 NBA seasons - with the Celtics (1977-85), the Los Angeles Clippers (1985-87, the team shown on this card), and the Houston Rockets (1987-88). A crafty low-post scorer who drew fouls and shot a high percentage inside, he averaged 12.5 points and 6.3 rebounds per game for his career. Maxwell won two championships with Boston and was named Finals MVP of the 1981 series, averaging 17.7 points and 9.5 rebounds as the Celtics beat Houston. The Celtics retired his No. 31 in 2003, and he has broadcast their games since 2001. He remains the only Finals MVP eligible for the Hall of Fame who has not been inducted.

Cedric Maxwell was already an established star by 1986; this is not his rookie card, but he is one of the names that make the set a who's-who of the era. He is pictured with the Los Angeles Clippers.
