1986-87 Fleer #80 Norm Nixon

About Norm Nixon
A speedy 6'2" point guard out of Duquesne University, Norman Ellard Nixon was drafted 22nd overall by the Los Angeles Lakers in 1977 and played 12 NBA seasons (1977-1989). He starred for the Lakers through 1983, then moved to the San Diego/Los Angeles Clippers, the team shown on this card. Nixon made the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 1978, was a two-time All-Star (1982 and 1985), and won two NBA championships (1980 and 1982) as a backcourt engine of the early "Showtime" Lakers. Traded to the Clippers, he led the entire league in assists in 1983-84 with 914. He retired with 12,065 points (15.7 ppg) and 6,386 assists (8.3 apg) over 768 games. Nicknamed "Stormin' Norman" for his relentless, fast-paced play, he later saw his NBA career cut short by a ruptured Achilles tendon and finished with a stint in Italy. He is married to actress and director Debbie Allen.

Norm Nixon was already an established star by 1986; this is not his rookie card, but he is one of the names that make the set a who's-who of the era. He is pictured with the Los Angeles Clippers.
