About this card

Card #128 is Alvin Robertson's card in the twelve-card All-Star subset (#120–131) that runs at the end of the 1988-89 Fleer set, ahead of the #132 checklist — Fleer's first All-Star subset. The same player appears in this set on base card #105.

About Alvin Robertson

Fleer caught “Dog” late in his San Antonio prime here — not a rookie card, as #105 arrived during Alvin Robertson's fifth and final Spurs season before the trade to Milwaukee. The Barberton, Ohio guard climbed from Crowder College to Arkansas, won 1984 Olympic gold, then went seventh overall to San Antonio in the 1984 draft. By 1985-86 he was the NBA's inaugural Most Improved Player, its Defensive Player of the Year, and second-team All-NBA — the only player ever to top 300 steals in a season. On February 18, 1986 he posted the league's lone guard quadruple-double: 20 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists, and 10 steals against Phoenix. A four-time All-Star (1986-88, 1991), three-time steals champ, and six-time All-Defensive pick, he retired with a record 2.71 steals per game that still stands. The nickname? His Omega Psi Phi fraternity brothers — the “Q-Dogs” at Arkansas — hung it on him.
